Autonomous Retail

Round-the-clock retail tailored for hotel lobbies

Hotel lobbies hold untapped space, yet traditional front-desk retail struggles with staffing constraints, out-of-stock items, and slow service. Autonomous Retail 24/7 introduces modular retail corners tailored to hotel size and guest demand. Tested across multiple Accor brands, these automated spaces allow guests to purchase food, drinks, and essentials day and night without adding operational burden on hotel teams.

WHY

Overcoming operational hurdles in hotel retail

Most hotel guests want to make additional purchases during their stay, but conventional lobby retail falls short. Sourcing is complex, product ranges are often limited, and front-desk staff lack retail time, creating payment queues during peak hours. In an internal survey of 173 French hotels, 88% wanted to monetise lobby space and 96% sought central support to install and run retail concepts.

WHAT

Three flexible automated retail formats

The project offers three adaptable retail formats. Simply Store combines a compact display with reception scanning. Liberty Store features a self-checkout kiosk with barcode scanning. Connected Store provides smart refrigerated units unlocked via payment card pre-authorisation. Depending on room count, hotels choose between semi-turnkey management alongside Accor or a fully supplier-managed model, stocking curated food, drinks, toiletries, and travel accessories.

  • Generates secondary revenue with a 15% to 35% net margin for hotels
  • Offers guests 24/7 autonomous access to F&B and essential products
  • Reduces front-desk workload through self-checkout and connected fridges
  • Monetises underutilised lobby space starting from 2 square metres

HOW

Proven pilot performance and automated deployment

Pilots across properties including ibis budget, Novotel, and Mercure doubled average monthly retail revenue and yielded net margins of 15% to 35%. Deployment is supported by Revenue-On-Demand, a digital platform featuring an auto-diagnostic tool, AI simulator, and supplier links. Platform finalisation is scheduled for June 2026, followed by a third hotel test wave in July and kiosk integration in September.
